ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE   -   Elaine Hale, BA (Hons), PGCE, MSTAT

Image description

The Alexander Technique is a unique, practical system for re-education of mind and body. Anyone can learn it and everyone can benefit. In lessons with a teacher you discover your own particular ways of holding onto tensions and habits.

Having trained originally as an actor, like F.M. Alexander himself, I retain an interest in how the technique can be used to explore creatively, especially how the physical conditions present affect vocal quality. I continue to work with actors and performers of all sorts, including dancers and musicians. I trained as a Teacher of Alexander Technique from 2006–2009 at Fellside Alexander Teacher Training School in Kendal and have been practicing widely since then.

Since 2012 I have been working with many people with life-limiting conditions, such as Parkinson’s, MS, pulmonary disorders, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Cancer. I also work with depression, anxiety and bereavement. I have been a member of The Society for Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) since 2006. STAT monitors and insures all of its teaching members.

COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY   -   Lee Partis MBACP (Senior accredited)

Image description

I have nearly twenty years experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist and work full time for the NHS in prisons as well as in private practice. I am what is known as an ‘integrative practitioner’, which means that I start with the person, rather than the psychological model, and utilise Compassion Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Existential theory and other models in order to fit the therapy to the person, rather than the other way around.

I am a Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

In my work for the NHS I have worked with all manner of issues relating to anxiety, low mood, trauma, PTSD, OCD, substance-abuse, sexual abuse, physical abuse and Personality Disorders.

I have been practising tai chi for over 30 years and used to be a tai chi teacher in London. I also had a previous life as a professional musician, enabling me to travel the world.

Due to my commitments with the NHS I am available for sessions at Croftlands on Fridays only.

OSTEOPATHY   -   Mary Vale D.O.

Image description

After qualifying from the British School of Osteopathy in London in 1989, Mary spent a year working as a locum osteopath throughout the UK. She then worked in London, Surbiton and Mitcham, before establishing her own practices, first in South Wimbledon and then in Chessington, Surrey. During this time she did underpaid work with the London Olympians American Football Team and spent four years working part-time at the Osteopathic Centre for Children in Harley Street.

In 2003 Mary took a sabbatical in New Zealand, where she treated a diverse range of patients including bee keepers, Maori fishermen and ski instructors before returning to more familiar faces in Hest Bank.

Mary specialises in the treatment of children and has continued to study in Paediatric Osteopathy. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, swimming, walking, rowing and reading.

“I love my job as every person is unique and every case of back pain is different. Osteopathy allows me to preform the best treatment possible by treating the patient as an individual”
